The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is suitable for individuals who want to obtain a teaching qualification, current teachers and trainers, particularly for those who are working in (or aiming to work in) the work-based learning, further education and Independent Training Providers (ITP) sectors. Whether you are someone who is new to the industry or already working in the field but wish to gain a further teaching qualification, the Course prepares trainee teachers and trainers to teach in a wide range of contexts, in the post – 16 education (learning and skills sector).

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 19 years of age or over. At least one A-level or a level 3 qualification (or the equivalent) and 4 GCSE’s with a GCSE grade C and above in English and Maths (or the equivalent) Applicants wishing to undertake the DET programme must be experienced or qualified in the subject they wish to teach at the appropriate Applicants must have access to 100 hours of teaching/training Applicants must provide proof of having arranged or confirmed work placement. Applicants who do not have the above qualifications can apply and will be assessed on their suitability for the course based on appropriate work experience or professional qualifications. Non-English speaking applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their proficiency in English Language, or they can have an Internal English Test Non-English speaking applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their proficiency in English Language, equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 5.5 or higher with no section scoring less than 5.5.

Personal Statement

A personal statement is an essay that the student must write to apply to study at the university. Its purpose is to summarise your skills and experience and help you gain a place at your desired course. It must include the name of the university and the name of the course. You have to mention why are you applying to this particular university and what do you hope to achieve after the course, career wise. A well written personal statement will help you stand out in the crowd and secure you a place at your dream university. You can follow a specific guide to answer to some expected questions, however, you must not mention them in the essay. Have a clear, cursive structure and write a minimum of 250 words.

Your career

The DET qualification is recognized as equivalent to the Certificate of Education qualifications in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications. Learners who have achieved the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training can progress to further higher education studies (Level 6) in Bachelor of Education (BEd) or BA (Hons) Education at numerous universities in the UK.
